Questions players ask
Is the Practical Basketball shot meter pure skill?
Yes. The release-window system uses timing only — no percentages. The community-observed tolerance per shot type is documented in the Shot Release Timing Analyzer tool.
What is the optimal release time for a jump shot?
650 ms (community-observed). The tolerance (sigma) is 110 ms. A shot released between roughly 430 ms and 870 ms falls in the optimal band.
How does a defender contest the shot?
A defender within 1.5 m applies a contest penalty that compresses the sigma to 45% of its un-contested value when the defender is on top of the shooter. Height amplifies the penalty.
Do mobile inputs widen the release window?
Yes. The community-observed adjustment is +15% sigma on mobile input to compensate for flick direction noise.
